Sigiri (Lion Rock) is a unique ancient fortified city with Moats, Ramparts and Gateways. On the summit of the Rock, a rugged granite mass abruptly rising 600ft. from the surrounding plain, dwelt King Kassapa 1 (478-496 A.D.) The western rock-face had been painted on and, in a natural cavern now ascended by a spiral stairway, are preserved 22 female figure.
