‘Sandakada Pahana’ – Half Moonstone
Location: Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka
Date Published: 1910-1930s
Half moon stone is completely carved out of a slab of rock/granite. It has several (half) rings (semi circle).
- The first ring is that of flames.
- Four animals, namely; elephants, horses, lions and bulls.
- Creeper (and leaves) followed by a (half) ring of swans (carrying a lotus plant with a half opened lotus flower in each swans beak).
- Final (semi) circle of a creeper which brings us to the centre that is of a blossomed lotus flower (half).
At first look i though whether it was a real antique directly from the moon because there is a speculation about ancient ruins on moon
