Native Sinhalese Toddy collector #IMG775 Toddy (Raa) is the sap of palm trees used as a beverage. To collect palm sap, the flower bud is cut at the tip before it blossoms and a pot (clay pot) is hung to collect the sap. This tradition method of collecting Toddy is slowly becoming a rare scene.
I started my career in planting on Haputale Estate, 100 years after this photograph was taken! It is indeed difficult to identify, probably this bungalow is the one that was later improved to house the General Mamnager of the owning company at that time, The Scottish Tea & Lands Coy. of Ceylon Ltd.
